LA PANNE di Friedrich Dürrenmatt
Theatre
Here is the English translation of the provided Italian text:
A text that deals with a central theme, that of truth, in the theatrical adaptation directed by Alessandro Maggi, which will take place at the Kismet Theater in Bari on Saturday, February 14 at 9 PM and Sunday, February 15 at 6 PM as part of the Renaissance season.
"The Physicists" by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, a new co-production of Teatri di Bari with the Civic Theater of Spezia, Scarti center for innovative theater production, and Stefano Francioni productions, makes its debut in Puglia after its national premiere in La Spezia. Composed by Dürrenmatt in 1956 and adapted for a radio drama in 1961, the play features the character Alfredo Traps, who, after having a problem with his car, finds refuge for the night in the villa of a wealthy retired judge. Every evening, the judge hosts other retired friends with whom, as a pastime, he organizes mock trials for historical figures or unfortunate individuals passing through his villa. To be judged, it is not necessary to have committed a crime - or at least to be aware of it: in the refined game of the old retirees, the determination of guilt can disregard the verification of the facts. This is what happens to poor Traps, who during a lavish dinner suddenly finds himself accused of a murder he didn’t know he had committed, or rather, was sure he hadn’t committed. However, the skill of the prosecutor insinuates itself into Traps' story, distorting and almost imperceptibly forcing it, until the poor salesman finds himself confessing to a crime he did not commit.
The cast of the play, based on the translation of the text by Eugenio Bernardi, includes Nando Paone, Giacinto Palmarini, Vittorio Ciorcalo, Piergiorgio Fasolo, Gemma Lapi, and Augusto Masiello. The performance at the Kismet is under the auspices of the Swiss Embassy in Italy.
On Saturday, February 14 at 6 PM in the foyer of the Kismet, there will be a round table discussion titled "Guilt, Truth, Crime" based on Friedrich Dürrenmatt, which will provide a space for dialogue among institutions, jurists, and experts on legality and fair trials. The event will feature guests including Deputy Minister of Justice Francesco Paolo Sisto, the Chief Prosecutor of the Republic of Taranto Eugenia Pontassuglia, the Honorary Consul of Switzerland Ugo Patroni Griffi, the City of Bari's Culture Commissioner Paola Romano, and the president of Teatri di Bari, Mariella Pappalepore. The meeting, which is free to attend, will be moderated by Nicola Costantino, president of the Association Amiki, Friends of the Kismet Theater. During the evening in the foyer, there will be a book corner from the cultural association "Un panda sulla luna." Following the performance on Sunday, February 15, there will be a meeting in the foyer with the Company, featuring director Lello Tedeschi, Silvia Mei from the Dams department at the University of Bari 'Aldo Moro,' and Paolo Ponzio, president of Puglia Culture.
