Uno Maggio Taranto Libero e Pensante - Brunori Sas, Subsonica, Gemitaiz, Giorgio Poi, Margherita Vicario, Marco Castello

The event "Uno Maggio Taranto Libero e Pensante" returns this year for its XIII edition at the Massimo Battista Park (Archaeological Park of the Greek Walls). The concert event, which has united music, civic engagement, and active participation on issues of labor, health, and rights since 2013, is under the artistic direction of Antonio Diodato, Roy Paci, journalist Valentina Petrini, and Michele Riondino. Born from grassroots initiatives by the Committee of Free and Thoughtful Citizens and Workers, the event now represents one of the most significant cultural and social moments in the country, capable of combining artistic performances and collective reflection while keeping the issues of the Taranto area at the forefront and creating a bridge with the main international conflicts that are keeping the world on edge: from Cuba to Iran and Palestine, in the year marking the fifteenth anniversary of the death of activist Vittorio Arrigoni, brutally killed in the Gaza Strip. The choice of the pulsating heart of the 2026 political document: "We Remain Human" is not coincidental. This message highlights the urgency of resisting inequalities and the tensions of the present while promoting rights, solidarity, and dignity. Music will take center stage with artists who have chosen the Taranto stage, featuring a lineup that spans generations and multiple languages: Subsonica and Brunori Sas, in addition to the already announced Gemitaiz, Giorgio Poi, Margherita Vicario, Marco Castello. Alongside the music, as per tradition, the Taranto stage will host some of the most important voices of civil society. From Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, to Tomaso Montanari, art historian, rector of the University for Foreigners of Siena, and essayist among the most influential anti-fascist intellectuals in Italy. The themes of labor, rights, and security will be addressed on stage by the Committee of Free and Thoughtful Citizens and Workers, who proudly announce the presence of Maria Teresa Daprile, widow of Ilva worker Claudio Salamida, who died inside the factory last January 12. Preceding the concert, there will be a round table moderated by Maria Cristina Fraddosio, where political guests will meet with the community. As every year, Riccardo Noury will present Amnesty International's annual report. It is a rare public assembly that has proven to be a crucial space for dialogue over the years. Uno Maggio Taranto is a completely self-funded and grassroots-organized event, thanks to the volunteers of the Committee who have dedicated themselves to this event for years.
