**April 25 - Ambient Days at the Cloister of the Capuchins
The Perfect Day of Ambient Music**
On April 25, at 7:00 PM, the Cloister of the former Capuchin Convent in Mesagne will host the preview of the Ambient Days festival, leading up to the second edition scheduled for July 17 and 18 in Brindisi. The initiative is organized by Ambient Italia in collaboration with Artists for the Social, the INTERFERENZE project, and Nauta Studio.
The "Ambient Days" revolve around a precise concept of sound research: in this case, experimental music aims to create listening spaces. The Cloister of the Capuchins, with its intimate structure and irregular acoustics, alongside its appeal as a space dedicated to nurturing the spirit through creativity in work and meditation, is a context that does not allow for superficiality: every sound choice is felt, and every void is significant.
**Who Makes This Evening Happen**
Artists for the Social, a collective engaged in promoting and designing artistic pathways in social contexts, brings with it a practice that combines cultural production and local work. In addition to conceiving and organizing events, it creates opportunities for the public to engage with what is happening, without forced mediation.
INTERFERENZE, a platform dedicated to the contemporary reinterpretation of international literature through the language of performative theatrical reading, works on the contamination of languages. Sound meets word, scene, body. The collaboration with Paco Maddalena – composer of the music for "Everything Else is Prose," a work inspired by Emily Dickinson – fits into this path.
Paco Nauta Studio adds structured technical expertise related to the construction of all visual communication elements. It is both technical work and also project-based.
**The Role of Ambient Italia**
At the center of this journey is Ambient Italia, an independent community that has emerged as a true reference point for the national ambient scene in recent months. It is not only a platform for sound research but also a concrete space where artists and enthusiasts meet, engage, and build relationships.
Ambient Italia works on the dissemination of Italian ambient and experimental music and on the search for new sound languages and listening practices, providing with the events it organizes an environment where sound transforms from an individual experience into a collective one. It serves as a connection point that unites research, practice, and community.
The Program
The evening will begin with a talk about Ambient Italia: a direct account of its history and evolutionary path through the words of its president and founder, Paco Maddalena. Following that, a video report will present images and fragments from the stages the community has gone through – Bologna, Milan, Rome, Genoa, Salerno – and of the network formed along this journey.
Then, live sets will follow. Fonemi, Mutaform, Paco Maddalena along with Andrea Esperti, and Neapolitan musician Giagapas will perform. These four different approaches to sound involve layering, subtraction, improvisation, and timbral construction.
Throughout the evening, the photographs and visual projects of Loredana Denicola and a selection of books and vinyl curated by Spazio D’Autore will introduce other possible trajectories, while remaining connected to what occurs in the sound realm.
Admission is free. Familiarity with the genre is not required, only a willingness to listen. This, after all, is the true starting point.
