July 31 represented a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the encounter between painting and opera, two artistic expressions that have always enriched our culture and spirit. On July 31, 2026, the painting exhibition “Between the Dreamlike and the Surreal” was inaugurated and remained open until August 6, featuring the fascinating works of Daniela Marzio and Giuseppe Roma. At the same time, the second masterclass promoted by “CantOstuni” took place, a well-established project that for the past three years has served as a point of reference for opera singing enthusiasts.

The exhibition “Between the Dreamlike and the Surreal” invites the public to embark on a journey through inner worlds and emotional landscapes. Daniela Marzio’s canvases are characterized by an aesthetic that intertwines Romanticism and Surrealism, inspired by her dreams and the profound emotions that inhabit her art. The sea, a recurring element in her work, is transformed into a powerful symbol of energy and introspection. Blue, the predominant color, opens gateways to metaphysical dimensions where silence and meditation reign supreme. Her creations evoke enigmas and metaphors that encourage viewers to reflect on the deeper meaning of existence and eternity.

Alongside Daniela Marzio’s work were the paintings of Giuseppe Roma, which pay tribute to nature and the Apulian landscape—the deep roots of his artistic practice. His paintings portray enchanting views of Ostuni, with its evocative trulli, centuries-old olive trees, and almost fairy-tale atmospheres. Doves, symbols of purity, guide the viewer’s gaze through a contemplative and soothing experience. Through vibrant colors and harmonious visual pathways, Giuseppe Roma leads visitors to places of peace and meditation, restoring an authentic connection with the unspoiled beauty of the region.

Alongside the exhibition, the magic of opera singing could be heard thanks to the second masterclass of “CantOstuni.” This project attracts talent from every corner, with an exceptional teaching team including pianist Andra Demidov, soprano Angela Sindeli, and actor Ionuț Kivu, offering a training program of the highest level. The first two masterclasses took place at the Espressioni d’Arte venues in Brindisi and Ostuni, while the third meeting was held on August 1 at the prestigious Civic Museum, an ideal setting for hosting refined and engaging concerts.

Opera singing, an art that uses the voice powerfully and without amplification, was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO in December 2023. Originating in Italy in the seventeenth century, it is based on precise techniques that enable the voice to fill large theaters, combining technique, emotion, and sonic balance. This discipline transforms the human voice into a pure instrument, capable of touching the soul through the perfect union of sound and meaning, evoking intense emotions.

The concert in Ostuni took on a special significance because it was dedicated to the memory of Don Piero Suma, a charismatic figure who was deeply loved by the community. Don Piero was not only a priest of great spiritual fervor, but also a tireless cultural and social promoter. For years, he directed a radio station in Locorotondo, promoting messages of faith and community. In Villanova, he revived the tradition of the Madonna del Mare; in Ostuni’s historic center, he granted Espressioni d’Arte permission to reopen the Church of the Holy Spirit, transforming it into a place of art and community. Thanks to him, the “Espressioni d’Arte” Association continued to develop initiatives that bring spirituality and culture together, keeping the presence of beauty alive in our lives.

The partnership between “Espressioni d’Arte” and “CantOstuni,” formalized this year, represents an important step toward the artistic and cultural growth of the region, promising new synergies and future projects. The evenings featured a vocal cast of the highest caliber, comprising sopranos Lili Almiento, Maria Căpățână, Lala Crizbășianu, Elena Dragomir, and Vera Enache, joined by mezzo-soprano Alexandra Culea and accompanied on piano by Andra Demidov. The special participation of Angela Sindeli and Ionuț Kivu added further charm and depth to the performance, which was capable of moving and engaging every spectator.
