Rock’n’Roll Party, il più grande revival 50/’60 del sud Italia

A multi-layered immersive journey into the era of the economic boom and the revolution in social customs, through music, entertainment, and much more. That is the promise—and the hallmark for the past twenty years—of the Rock’n’Roll Party, the largest 1950s and 1960s revival event in Southern Italy. Now in its 18th edition, the festival will take place on Saturday, August 8, in the enchanting setting of Masseria Strazzati in Avetrana.

Organized by the Rocket Association of Erchie, the event was officially presented in the Town Council Hall of the Municipality of Avetrana, which proudly supports it.

Packed with concerts, performances, and unexpected attractions, this year's program unfolds within a tongue-in-cheek Gothic-inspired concept, rooted in local tradition. According to legend, Masseria Strazzati stands on the site of a medieval monastery that later became a rural outpost of the Piarist Fathers from the 17th century onward.

The Gardens of Sin is the theme of the 2026 edition of the Rock’n’Roll Party. In this playful narrative, the monks who once inhabited the site discover that the blazing fire of rock’n’roll consuming them is not the infernal flame of sin they feared, but the sacred fire of freedom. Guiding them beyond their narrow-minded prejudice is a gigantic serpent, approximately thirteen meters long, specially crafted in papier-mâché by the master artisans of the Massafra Carnival under the direction of renowned artist Francesco Lisi. The colossal creature was teased about ten days ago through an eye-catching guerrilla marketing campaign featuring mysterious signs placed throughout the streets of Avetrana and Erchie, before making a surprise appearance last Sunday in Torre Colimena.

Spread across the venue's 18,000 square meters, nine themed areas will bring to life what has become a true collective ritual, attracting more than 3,000 visitors of all ages from across Italy: vintage enthusiasts, rock’n’roll and rockabilly fans, lovers of unique experiences, and families alike. A dedicated entertainment area will also welcome younger guests.

The main stage will feature La Conventicola degli Ultramoderni, the extraordinary troupe led by Sior Mirkaccio and Madame De Freitas, whose unmistakable artistic style has captivated audiences throughout Italy and abroad, even becoming the subject of a Sky Arte documentary. Their traveling spectacle will bring musicians, performers, singers, actors, elaborate costumes, and scenic characters together in a kaleidoscopic performance blending live music, musical theatre, variety shows, burlesque, comedy, and vintage revue.

In the woodland surrounding the masseria, the spotlight will belong to Boppin’ Kids, one of Italy's longest-running and most respected rockabilly and psychobilly bands, internationally acclaimed for their powerful sound and explosive live performances. After the concert, the party continues with Panic Rock's DJ set, keeping the dance floor alive late into the night.

Inside the farmhouse—transformed for the occasion into a monastery—visitors will experience an immersive theatrical performance directed by Giorgio Consoli, featuring a cast of professional actors portraying the resident monks. Through sketches, improvisation, and interactive moments, the audience becomes an integral part of the performance, turning the experience into a lively happening. Among the most surprising installations is an unconventional confessional booth, reimagined as one of the event's most engaging theatrical elements.

Another area will host the Wasteland Jam Session, open to anyone wishing to play and improvise. Musical instruments, amplifiers, microphones, and percussion will be available for public use, while participants are also welcome to bring their own instruments. The space will be curated by Soundigger Guitars, the artisan guitar workshop from Lequile, which will also showcase a selection of its handcrafted instruments.

The event's distinctive identity will be especially evident beneath the masseria's arcade, renamed for the occasion The Street of Secret Rooms. This emotionally charged pathway is filled with mystery, art, and curiosity. Visitors will wander through evocative spaces including the Absinthe Chamber, dedicated to the legendary drink beloved by the cursed poets; the Cabinet of Curiosities, displaying unusual artifacts and oddities; the Gallery of Relics, featuring remarkable works of art; and the Monk's Confessional, where the "sin" of rock’n’roll is transformed into liberating redemption. At the end of the journey, guests will encounter the Monastery Oracle, ready to reveal their fortunes.

Food lovers will find plenty to enjoy as well. The Monastery Inn will be hosted by food content creator Tamara Mitrangolo, whose community of over 400,000 social media followers has made her a well-known culinary personality. Dressed as a 1950s pin-up, she will present a live cooking show centered on the preparation of the alchemical Golden Sin, the official signature dish of the 2026 Rock’n’Roll Party. Burgers, sandwiches, and a wide variety of street food will also be available throughout the evening.

At the Monastery Cellar, visitors can enjoy craft beers, local wines, cocktails, and a selection of other beverages, all served in a dedicated relaxation area.

Classic motoring enthusiasts will also have plenty to admire, with a spectacular exhibition of gleaming American classic cars and custom motorcycles arriving from across the region, creating a true gathering within the heart of the Rock’n’Roll Party.

Completing the experience will be a vintage-inspired barber shop, retro hairstyling and makeup stations, and a 1950s- and 1960s-themed vintage market.

The gates will open at 9:00 PM, with the celebration continuing until the first light of dawn.
