On Saturday, September 19 at 8:00 p.m., the first event of the 22nd “Saverio Mercadante” Concert Series will be held at the Torre Mu.Ra. Theatre in Noci (Bari).

Taking the stage will be the international artists Mario Pio Ferrante on flute and Raffaele Maisano on piano, presenting the following program:

MARIO PIO FERRANTE
He graduated with highest honors in 2000 from the “D. Cimarosa” Conservatory of Music in Avellino, under the guidance of Maestro Nicola Caiazza. Beginning in 1994, he took part in numerous national competitions, receiving important awards, including first prize at the “Cesare Ciardi” National Competition, first prize at the “G. B. Pergolesi” National Competition, first prize at the Città di Mercogliano Music Competition in the soloist category, first prize at the 2nd Città di Mercogliano Music Competition in the chamber-music category, first prize at the “Alda Rossi da Rios” Competition as the best graduate of Italy’s conservatories in the 2000 academic year, and first prize at the 13th “Emanuele Krakamp” National Competition, in addition to numerous second prizes in major national competitions.

He pursued advanced studies at the ICONS Academy in Novara and the International Academy of Imola with Maestros G. Cambursano and B. Cavallo. In 2001 and 2002, he consecutively won the prestigious “L. Martelli” scholarship as the best student in the advanced flute courses at ICONS in Novara. In 2001, he was admitted to the Academy of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and in 2003 he won the international competition in Florence for the “S. Gazzelloni” scholarships.

From 2001 to 2003, he served as principal flute of the Campania Regional Orchestra. He is regularly invited to perform as principal flute with Italian and international orchestras, including, currently, the Brutia Symphony Orchestra of Cosenza. From 2006 to 2015, he worked regularly as solo principal flute with the La Grecìa Orchestra of Catanzaro.

Particularly active in the field of contemporary music, he has received praise from internationally renowned composers such as Alvin Curran, Raul De Smet, John Baumann, and Pierre Boulez. On the occasion of performances of *Dérive* and *Le marteau sans maître* at the Teatro di San Carlo, Boulez praised his style and interpretive technique.

His performances have been broadcast by Radio Tre Classica and on the national wired-broadcasting network. In 2004, he was invited to the 41st Nuova Consonanza Festival in Rome both as a chamber musician and as a soloist. He also revises contemporary-music works for Rugginenti Editrice of Milan.

He has participated in recording projects for CD Baby (New York), Stradivarius, Warner Music Group, and FaLaUt Collection. In 2010, he served as assistant at the advanced flute courses held in Salerno by Maestro B. Cavallo. Since 2017, he has been a guest lecturer at the Falaut Campus international advanced flute courses.

After winning a competitive examination based on qualifications and performance, he is a tenured professor of flute at the “G. Martucci” State Conservatory of Music in Salerno.

RAFFAELE MAISANO
A student of pianist Paolo Spagnolo, Raffaele Maisano earned his piano diploma as an external candidate, with highest honors and distinction, from the S. Pietro a Majella Conservatory of Music in Naples.

In 2001, he was admitted to the three-year Advanced Studies Program at the Incontri col Maestro Piano Academy in Imola. In 2005, he obtained the corresponding diploma for the three-year program by examination. That same year, he earned a degree in Philosophy from the University of Naples Federico II, with a thesis in the History and Aesthetics of Music entitled *Musical Interpretation*.

He has won first prizes in national and international piano competitions. He has performed concerts at major Italian and international institutions and festivals, including: Naples—Teatro di San Carlo and the Sala Scarlatti of the S. Pietro a Majella Conservatory of Music; Salerno—Teatro Verdi and Teatro Augusteo; Palermo—Teatro Politeama; Vicenza—Teatro Olimpico; Ravello—Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium and the Auditorium of Villa Rufolo; Caserta—Royal Palace Theatre; Salzburg—Salzburger Schloss Konzert; Brussels—Monteverdi Festival; and in other cities, including Varese, Venice, Milan—the Dino Ciani Musical Association, Stresa—the Villa Francesca Piano Festival, Gorizia—GoriziaClassica, Chieti—the Auditorium of the University Museum, Osimo—Teatro La Nuova Fenice, Rome—the Roman Piano Festival, Bologna—the San Giacomo Festival, Albano—the Liszt Festival, Geneva, Rouen—the Moulin d’Andè Festival, Murcia—the Teatro Villa de Molina, and the Xianghai Music Conservatory in Shenzhen, among others.

He is the official pianist of the Falaut Flute Association—the Falaut Campus, Falaut Festival, and Severino Gazzelloni Competition—and of the Mediterranean Clarinet Academy.

After winning a competitive examination based on qualifications and performance, he is a tenured professor of piano at the “Giuseppe Martucci” Conservatory of Music in Salerno.
