Mattia Vlad Morleo - Concerto Evento per "Organova"

Saturday, September 26, at 8:00 p.m., the Church of San Domenico in Mola di Bari will host the «Organova – Santa Maria del Passo International Season»’s 17th edition of the «Event Concert» featuring Mattia Vlad Morleo. He will perform a program in which piano, organ, and electronics meet in an immersive soundscape blending neoclassical writing, ambient music, pop influences, and timbral experimentation.

This event takes «Organova», directed by Margherita Sciddurlo, into one of the most contemporary areas of its programming, bringing the instrument that has been at the heart of the festival for centuries into dialogue with the piano and the possibilities offered by electronics. Analog and modular synthesizers will intertwine with the acoustic instruments, expanding their timbres, resonances, and depth in a performance suspended between composition and experimentation.

At the heart of the concert is sound understood not merely as musical material, but as a space in its own right. Mattia Vlad Morleo will create a flow in which melody may emerge clearly before dissolving into electronic layers, while piano and organ will alternately come to the fore or become part of a broader texture. Intimate, rarefied moments will alternate with denser passages in a continuous movement between energy and contemplation, suspension and transformation.

The encounter between organ and electronics takes on particular significance within «Organova». The instrument’s vast timbral palette, created through the layering of different stops and the possibility of producing numerous combinations of sounds, naturally finds a counterpart in synthesizers and analog devices. Two universes that are worlds apart in terms of history and technology can thus share a common principle: shaping timbre, layering frequencies, altering the perception of space, and constructing sound masses through successive layers.

This is the territory in which Mattia Vlad Morleo’s work has developed for years. Born in 2000, he is a composer and musician from Puglia whose language encompasses neoclassical, ambient, and electro-pop music. He studied at the «Niccolò Piccinni» Conservatory in Bari and began his recording career at a very young age, alongside composing music for films and documentaries. Between 2018 and 2023, he composed music for productions presented at international festivals and broadcast, among others, by Rai Storia and History Channel.

His work also includes «Santa Subito» by Alessandro Piva, a documentary that won the Rome Film Fest. In 2022, he received the Nino Rota Award, recognizing his work in music composed for visual media. This cinematic dimension is also reflected in his independent writing—not necessarily through explicitly descriptive music, but through his ability to create atmospheres, sequences of inner images, and sound environments in which listeners can immerse themselves.

His live work has already taken him to numerous international venues, from Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie to Paris’s Carrousel du Louvre, from Berlin’s Kesselhaus to Stockholm’s Nobel Prize Museum, as well as Piano City Milano. His collaborations include one with Norwegian musician Daniel Herskedal, whose work also appears on the soundtrack of Paolo Sorrentino’s «Parthenope».

A Warner Music artist, Morleo recently released the album «The Quiet Beauty of Familiar Places», whose title already evokes one of the central aspects of his artistic vision: seeking an unexpected dimension in places, memories, and sensations that may seem familiar. His language emerges from the meeting of piano with analog and modular synthesizers, tape machines, drum machines, and electronics. These tools are not used merely as a technological coating for the writing, but contribute directly to its construction.
