The project was born from the need to investigate the phenomenon of brigandage, which affected southern Italy in the nineteenth century, from a human as well as a historical and anthropological perspective. It tells the story, events, causes, and historical and social context that shaped the life of one of the most representative figures of brigandage in Italy.

From childhood to imprisonment in the nation’s jails, Carmine Crocco Donatelli tells his story in the first person, offering an original and deeply personal perspective from someone who lived through and wrote a fundamental chapter in the history of southern Italy and of Italy as a whole.

VITO LOPRIORE — ACTOR, WRITER, DIRECTOR AND THEATRE EDUCATOR

He began his artistic training at C.U.T.A.M.C. in Bari and studied singing at the “Nino Rota” Conservatory of Music in Monopoli. Over the years, he has worked in film, television, theatre and music as an actor, writer, director and educator, gaining professional and training experience in Italy and abroad (Bosnia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Jordan, Iraq, England and Belgium), before turning to writing.

He has worked with prestigious artistic figures, including Michele Placido, Daniele Vicari, Sergio Rubini, Carlo Verdone, Pippo Mezzapesa, Francesco Miccichè, Renato De Maria and Moni Ovadia.

He holds a diploma in theatre directing and education from the ITACA Academy, the International Theatre Academy of the Adriatic. He also attended an open course in playwriting at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the University of Molise.
