Concerto organo a 4 mani

The Friends of Music of Castellana Grotte (Bari) continue the 5th Touring Organ Series with the four-hand organ duo **NICOLA CURZIO / ANNARITA LOSPALLUTO**, presenting a program devoted to original works and transcriptions for this formation.

The program opens with **A. F. Hesse**, the son of an organ builder, as well as an organist and conductor. His *Fantasia*, written in a perfectly contrapuntal style, is a fine representation of early nineteenth-century German literature.

**J. E. von Sachsen**, a pupil of Walther, took a particular interest in the concerto and transcribed 60 concertos by composers ranging from Bach to Telemann and Vivaldi. This transcription was written in 1713–14, after his return from his studies in Utrecht.

**M. Reger**, a great German organist of the Romantic period, composed toccatas and fugues, fantasias, chorales, and sonatas. The waltzes included in this program are not original works for organ, but transcriptions of some of his pieces for piano.

**F. P. Lachner**, principally a conductor, was influenced in his compositions by Schubert’s style and represents a bridge between German Romanticism and Wagner’s music.

The program concludes with **C. Saint-Saëns**, titular organist at La Madeleine in Paris and a major French composer who devoted a significant part of his musical output to the organ, including fantasias, preludes, and fugues. Transcriptions of his celebrated compositions are well known in the four-hand organ repertoire, including *The Swan*, *Danse macabre*, and *The Carnival of the Animals*.

**THE CONCERT WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE BASILICA OF THE HOLY MEDICAL SAINTS IN ALBEROBELLO AT 8:30 P.M.**
