The Mysteries of Faith Debuts in Cinemas with “Carlo Acutis: The Young Saint”
Twenty years after his death, the event film tells the story of the life, spiritual legacy, and universal message of the first saint of the digital age
Every year, one million pilgrims visit his tomb in
Assisi. Eighty thousand faithful attended his canonization, celebrated on September 7, 2025, in St. Peter’s Square by
Pope Leo XIV. He is
Carlo Acutis, the young saint who has shaped the relationship between faith and the contemporary world, and whose example continues to draw believers and curious visitors from across the globe.
Twenty years after his death, his story will be at the heart of the first installment in the new film series “
The Mysteries of Faith,” a project devoted to exploring spirituality, the relationship between humanity and the divine, and the deeper meaning of existence. On October 15,
Carlo Acutis: The Young Saint will arrive in cinemas. The documentary, directed by
Luca Salmaso, focuses on the young man who forever changed the way faith is portrayed in the
21st century.
Carlo Acutis: The Young Saint tells the story of the life and spiritual legacy of
Carlo Acutis (1991–2006), the first saint of the digital age, through an intimate and contemporary lens that presents his humanity even before his religious dimension. Made with the participation of
Carlo’s parents and featuring previously unseen materials—including photographs, private videos, exclusive content, and footage of the canonization filmed with cameras provided by Vatican Media—the film offers an authentic portrait of
a boy who, in just 15 years of life, left a profound and universal mark.
The film brings together a series of valuable testimonies from people who were close to
Carlo for different reasons and who help reveal the various facets of his personality: his parents,
Antonia Salzano Acutis and Andrea Acutis; his grandmother,
Luana; the family’s domestic worker,
Rajesh Mohur; childhood friends
Mattia and Jacopo; schoolteacher
Elisa Tattanelli;
Momcilo Jankovic, the doctor who cared for him during the final days of his life; Costa Rican student
Valeria Vargas Valverde, at the center of the miracle associated with his canonization, and her mother,
Liliana; film and communications scholar
Monsignor Dario Edoardo Viganò, vice chancellor of the
Pontifical Academy of Sciences; postulator, journalist, and scholar of spirituality and mystical authors
Nicola Gori;
Monsignor Poma,
Carlo’s parish priest and confidant;
Father Fábio Vieira, spiritual director of the Association of Devotees of
Saint Carlo Acutis in Brazil and a priest of the Diocese of Corumbá, in Mato Grosso do Sul, as well as one of the leading promoters of devotion to
Carlo in Brazil; sociologist and expert on childhood and digital technologies
Stéphane Chaudron; and
Father Maurizio Corbetta, parish priest of
Santa Maria Segreta in Milan, the church where
Carlo lived out his experience of faith.
The film’s original music was entrusted to pianist and composer
Remo Anzovino, marking his twelfth collaboration with Nexo Studios. The soundtrack will be released under the Nexo Studios Soundtracks label and distributed exclusively by Universal Music Italy.
By focusing on everything that comes before the icon—the everyday, his relationship with his family, his sense of humor, and the surprising normality of a boy who lived his time with radical authenticity—
Luca Salmaso’s film brings to light a figure who fully inhabited his era, engaging with video games, programming, and the Internet, while choosing a radical spiritual path oriented toward what is essential and invisible.
The story of the
Young Saint thus unfolds as a journey through
Carlo’s life and the process of his canonization, presenting an ongoing dialogue between earthly life and the transcendent dimension. This work forms part of a living network of connections that continues to grow around his figure—from pilgrimages to
Assisi to digital communities around the world—showing how
Carlo’s message transcends religious boundaries to speak to different generations and distant cultures.
It reaches places ranging from his parish in
Milan to
Cascia, La Verna, Lanciano, Fátima, and Rome, as well as every country in the world where his words have found an echo and a welcome. These places are not merely settings, but narrative tools through which viewers can enter his spiritual world.
Carlo Acutis: The Young Saint represents an open-ended dialogue between faith, technology, and the search for meaning, addressing universal themes such as identity, loneliness, materialism, and hope. The result is an event film that seeks to unite emotional depth with a contemporary perspective, portraying a form of sainthood that is possible and close at hand—one capable of engaging with the present and proposing an idea of spiritual legacy that continues to live on in the world.
