Metabole - Semiotic Turn - Rassegna Arte a Torre Vado 2024

The exhibition "Metabole", a term of Greek origin referring to the concept of change, is a multifaceted concept with applications in numerous fields of human knowledge, representing the fundamental idea of ??change, transition from one state to another, and variation in different contexts. Understanding this term can offer a richer and more in-depth perspective on how we perceive and interpret changes in nature, culture, and society. Through this exhibition, artist Alex Papavassiliou explores the historical and cultural roots of semiotics, using symbolism and metaphor to connect past and present.

Alex Papavassiliou is known for his work in the "Semiotic Turn" cycle, an artistic project addressing themes of communication, interpretation, and meaning. His works combine elements of traditional painting with digital techniques, offering a contemporary reflection on semiotics.

Highlights:
• Semiotic Turn: The artist explores concepts of signifier and signified, inspired by the protagonists of the semiotic turn, such as Ferdinand de Saussure, Algirdas Julien Greimas, Charles Sanders Peirce, Umberto Eco, Roland Barthes, and Bruno Latour. On display are "Gaia" and "Flat Ontology" as a tribute to Bruno Latour and his proposals to defend our planet Earth.
• Tribute to Freud and Lacan: Psychoanalysis uses the same "toolbox" as Semiotics, albeit for different purposes. On display is the unpublished work "Io Es e Rimozioni" as a tribute to Freud, and the works "Petit Decalage" as a tribute to Lacan.
• NFT-TP Multimedia Approach: Alex Papavassiliou integrates traditional painting techniques with digital elements, creating works that reflect the interactions between the physical and digital world; on display are eight works created using innovative, environmentally friendly production techniques that use recycled materials from recycled tires.
• Historical Engagement: Some works on display in Torre Vado evoke the history and legends of the territory, inviting the public to reflect on the role of signs and symbols in the construction of our cultural identity.
