Once again this year, there will be a performance of operettas, a genre beloved by the audience in Taranto, which this year will see the staging of the famous SCUGNIZZA written by our fellow citizen Mario Costa.
The story, full of adventurous plots, romance, and enchanting melodies, brings the audience's imagination to Naples in the early 20th century where the carefree and cheerful scugnizzi Salomé and Totò make the atmosphere always festive despite poverty. The two lovers create lively and comical situations thanks to the unwitting victim of their pranks: Maria Grazia, Salomé's aunt. In Naples arrives the wealthy and bored widower Toby Gutter, who encounters the beautiful and lively Salomé, who with her vitality manages to awaken in him a love for life and captivate him to the point of wanting to marry her and take her with him to America. On vacation with him are also his daughter Gaby and the faithful Chic, secretly in love with her. Meanwhile, the scugnizzo Totò is also in love with Salomè and will try to hinder her departure. However, Maria Grazia sees in the union between the billionaire Toby and Salomè the possibility of a good arrangement for herself and her niece, and will do everything to ensure the marriage goes well.
An unexpected happy ending will unravel the love conflict in this operetta staged for the first time in Turin in 1922.
