No one forced Tonino Esposito to become a criminal. And yet he wants to do it at all costs, even though he is unlucky and clumsy. Because he wants to appear strong in the eyes of everyone. And because he is obsessed with the memory of his father Gennaro, who before being killed was a powerful and revered boss in the Sanità district in Naples. So Tonino, between nightmares and clumsiness, becomes involved in a series of tragicomic misadventures that lead him to clash with family members, with the ruthless laws of crime, and with the clan leader Pietro De Luca, known as 'o Tarramoto, who has taken his father's place. And when he can't take it anymore, when everything and everyone turns against him, he goes to the ancient Cemetery of the Fontanelle to converse with a skull that according to legend belonged to a Spanish captain. In an attempt to bring him back on the path of honesty, the captain's skull turns into a ghost and moves into Tonino's house. From the comedic "collaboration" between the two, hilarious episodes are born, reaching their climax when Tonino, after getting 'o Tarramoto in trouble, is put under house arrest by the clan leader and falls into depression. Around Tonino, the Captain, and De Luca, there are other memorable characters: Patrizia, Tonino's wife, a voluptuous and authoritative woman; Gaetano and Assunta, Patrizia's parents, who constantly bicker; Manuela, widow of boss Gennaro, a woman of noble feelings; Tina, the young daughter of Tonino and Patrizia, who fights against her father's illegal behavior. In the Esposito house, there is also an animal presence: Sansone, an iguana of the meditans species, who provides a counterpoint to all the funny moments of the comedy. The play is a combination of irresistible dialogues, plot twists, and messages of great ethical value, portraying the most vulgar and ridiculous aspects of crime, reviving the great Neapolitan comic tradition and making people laugh and reflect. A new way of telling and denouncing organized crime, perfectly in line with the content of the bestseller novel "Benvenuti in casa Esposito," which was a literary phenomenon. A book that climbed the charts thanks to word of mouth and the enthusiasm of thousands of readers across Italy, adopted by schools, public institutions, anti-mafia associations, civic committees, and groups fighting for legality.
