Who doesn't know the beautiful novel by Alessandro Baricco? Who hasn't dreamt about the wonderful film by Giuseppe Tornatore, "The Legend of 1900"? Unforgettable one, memorable the other.
I had and still have a sacred respect for these two masterpieces, and staging The Legend of 1900 really scared me, until I thought that that story could be told from the end. A bang, a ship that has sailed a thousand seas and heard a thousand melodies, and only one passenger left on board: the pianist.
What happened to him after the explosion? Did he start looking for all his fellow passengers, especially those in third class? And what about the melodious girl who was about to make him get off the ship? And the 8 keys of the piano, where did they end up? Ah yes, maybe it's better not to touch that key! Many think he is dead.
I'm not entirely convinced. Are you? Get on board to find out.
