From South America to the Beatles, songs of love and absence for viola da gamba and archlute
With Argentinian musicians Luciana Elizondo and Juan José Francione
Shining between the Baroque and the Beatles, the viola da gamba and the guitars, between the 16th-century music of Jacques Arcadelt and the Argentine tradition, the beauty of the concert «Canto de amor y ausencia» is offered by the traveling festival Anima Mea. This is presented by the South American duo Luciana Elizondo (vocals and viola da gamba) and Juan José Francione (archlute, guitar, and charango), with performances on Wednesday, November 6 at the Church of Purgatory in Palo del Colle, Thursday, November 7 at the Old Mastrototaro Sawmills in Bisceglie, and Friday, November 8 at the stables of the Castle of Sannicandro di Bari.
All concerts will begin at 8:30 PM and will be preceded by a reading from actress Nunzia Antonino from Isabel Allende's masterpiece «The House of the Spirits», where the worlds of the living and the dead meet, in line with the brief literary preludes that accompany some of the concerts of this sixteenth edition of Anima Mea, entirely dedicated to the theme of war, so present in our daily lives as it was during the Golden Age of music in the Old Continent.
Carried out with contributions from the Ministry of Culture, the Region of Puglia, and the municipalities of Bari, Andria, Palo del Colle, Sannicandro di Bari, and Minervino Murge, the Chamber of Commerce, and with the support of Rai Puglia, the festival, directed by Gioacchino De Padova, in this triple event explores the poetry of music—refined and popular, epic and intimate, art and pop. It does so by traversing centuries, societies, languages, and cultures, uniting creators, performers, and listeners.
In this program, Luciana Elizondo and Juan José Francione have selected significant poetic-musical pieces by Argentinians Eduardo Falú and Jaime Dávalos, by Emiliano Ferrer and Atahualpa Yupanqui, as well as his wife Antonieta Paula Pepin Fitzpatrick, a pianist and composer of French origins who signed as Pablo del Cerro. And furthermore, pieces by the duo Demetrio Ortiz and Zulema de Mirkin, Venezuelan Simón Díaz, Peruvian Félix Pasache, and then coming to Europe, English composers John Dowland and Tobias Hume, who lived between the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods, interspersed with John Lennon and Paul McCartney, the two most creative minds of the Beatles, before returning to South America to discover Luis Alberto Spinetta, a figurehead of the Argentine rock scene, and closing with the creator of the Renaissance madrigal, the Flemish Jacques Arcadelt.
Authors are interwoven, ranging across strong and beautiful songs in multiple languages, revealing new lives for each piece. The ensemble aims at essence, the chronological arc is extensive. And as rhythm and verses merge, the symbiosis between music, dance, and text becomes euphoric.
