FIFTH EVENT OF
CIVIC MUSIC
CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN SOUNDS AND WORDS
THE DISCO MUSIC STAR
AMII STEWART
IN
IT WOULD TAKE A THOUSAND SONGS
WITH THE ORCHESTRA OF MAGNA GRECIA CONDUCTED BY PIERO ROMANO
On Sunday, November 17th, the XV edition of the Civic Music series – Conversations between sounds and words continues. The absolute protagonist of the fifth show scheduled, and the second sold out event of this season, will be Amii Stewart, the unforgettable performer of the global hit "Knock on Wood," the cover of Eddie Floyd that sold eight million copies worldwide.
"It Would Take a Thousand Songs" is the title of this symphonic project that the iconic artist brings to Foggia, accompanied by the Orchestra of Magna Grecia conducted by Piero Romano.
And it would take a thousand songs to tell the story of Amii Stewart, a thousand songs to showcase the wonders that music has given her, a thousand songs to explore all the possibilities of her unique vocal timbre, another thousand to thank the audience for the evenings and applause, a thousand love songs to describe how, at the Giordano Theater, just like the first time, she will feel the thrill of anticipation behind the scenes.
An eclectic artist, she began her career as a dancer in Broadway companies, while also cultivating her innate vocal talent. With eight million records sold, she climbed to the top of world charts with the song "Knock on Wood." From that moment, her success has soared worldwide and, particularly, from the '80s and '90s in Europe. She toured extensively in the United States, Europe, Mexico, South America, Japan, Canada, and Russia. She has been invited to perform on important American, British, and Italian television shows. In addition to a relentless recording career awarded with several gold discs and a Grammy Awards nomination, she has given voice to many soundtracks for television and cinema, often entirely crafting the lyrics (Extra Large by Bud Spencer, Once you fall in love for the TV series "The Daughter of the Maharaja," Temptation for the TV movie "The Baron," and A song for you for the telenovela "Zingara," The Secret of the Sahara with Maestro Ennio Morricone, etc.).
The concert will be an itinerary that gives ample space to Italian singer-songwriter music, featuring songs by Ennio Morricone, Mina, Sting, Lucio Dalla, Pino Daniele, Gino Paoli, Vasco Rossi, while also touching on staples of international pop music. The voice of the '80s dance queen will be accompanied by the Orchestra of Magna Grecia, one of Italy’s most important Concert and Orchestral Institutions for production capability and innovation, which, by complementing the rhythmic part, will provide an original sound, thus giving a new color to well-known masterpieces of the Italian and international repertoire. The noted ensemble will be conducted by the artistic director of the Orchestra, Maestro Piero Romano. A versatile artist and organizer, pianist, and conductor able to engage with every genre and musical style, he has numerous concerts to his credit with internationally renowned artists, including Gregory Porter, Sergey Krylov, Aldo Ciccolini, Stefano Bollani, Roberto Cappello, Luis Bacalov, Katia Ricciarelli, Serena Autieri, Claudio Sgura, Luciano Ganci, Claudio Santamaria, Noa, Max Gazzè, Ray Chen, Tony Hadley, Chiara Civello, and Natalie Clein.
Thus, the voice and interpretative skills of a true music icon, enhanced by the presence of the orchestra, will literally make us dream with a thousand songs to listen to.
The event is supported by the European Union, Region Puglia, Municipality of Foggia, and PugliaPromozione (POC Puglia 2014-2020 Axis VI, Action 6.8).
