Born in Grottaglie (TA) on March 29, 1978, Carmine Fanigliulo (musician, composer, arranger, and conductor) attended a middle school with a musical focus where Professor Gabriella Pastore introduced him to the study of classical music and especially the violin. At the age of 14, he enrolled at the “G. Paisiello” Conservatory in Taranto where he graduated in viola under the guidance of Maestro Fernando Toma. A versatile musician, he has collaborated with pop music artists (Lucio Dalla, Ron, Renato Zero) and theater artists (Giuseppe Pambieri, Paola Gassman, Mita Medici), and various national orchestras (Magna Grecia of Taranto, Sinfonica Pescarese, Goffredo Petrassi of Zagarolo). He has attended advanced orchestral courses (in Lanciano, Lecce, and Taranto) as a violist. In 2004, he wrote, recorded, and arranged a CD titled “CHE ORA E’” (about the Jesuit saint Francesco de Geronimo, patron of Grottaglie), which was well-received. In 2007, he released the CD “IL VIAGGIO”, featuring ten songs arranged for string quartet. Since 2009, he has been the director of the “Orchestra del Liceo Moscati” project in Grottaglie (TA). In the same year, he recorded his third singer-songwriter work titled “PER FORTUNA C’È LA MUSICA”. In October 2010, he formed the Baroque music group “LA VAGA HARMONIA” and, together with his friend Francesco De Leonardis, produced the group’s first CD called “A MODO JONICO”, followed by “ITE OMAI ASPRI GUAI” in December 2011, the second Baroque music project entirely produced by La Vaga Harmonia. He has numerous recordings and CD publications to his credit as a musician, arranger, and songwriter. In 2013, he presented his latest work titled “1978”. In 2014, he wrote the soundtrack for the short film ‘Gloria’ directed by Tarantino filmmaker Carlo Barbalucca. In 2015, he wrote the soundtrack for the short film “Bella mia”, also by Carlo Barbalucca. In December 2016, he published his fifth work titled “Cantautori”. In 2019, his latest album “Benvenuto in questo mondo” was released. In 2022, his book "NON HO MAI SAPUTO CANTARE" was published, where he recounts his musical experience, and he released four singles between 2022 and 2024 as part of his new project titled “ULISSE NEL PAESE DELLE MERAVIGLIE”.
“... TO SING”. St. Augustine said to sing with the heart, with life. Carmine Fanigliulo has done this, and in the meantime, he has also learned to sing with his voice and writing, because evidently, there were not just the songs of others resonating within him. In that shy and silent boy whirled a vortex of words and notes seeking the right way to be communicated to others...".
A fresh book, full of stories to sing, Fanigliulo talks about his musical career in all its facets, from pop music to classical - instrumental music. A journey resembling Ulysses's “nòstos”: a return to origins that music allows him to undertake. A natural talent that bloomed during the sleepless nights illuminated by the moon, in those long, endless nights made of silence and waiting (when, to quote Alda Merini, «time does not urge...the noise of the crowd quiets, and the lynching of the hours ends»). This volume is also a journey, an odeporic tale that constitutes just the premise of what is yet to happen: it outlines the main milestones that have marked his life, from military service in Udine to visiting the Ambrosian city, from the first kiss by the sea to concerts with various national orchestras (“Magna Grecia of Taranto”, “Sinfonica Pescarese”, “Goffredo Petrassi” of Zagarolo), from recordings in the studio of his five albums (“Che ora è”, “Il viaggio”, “Per fortuna c’è la musica”, “1978”, “Cantautori”) to the encounter with love, to the birth of his son Claudio. Each chapter describes the text of a song dear to him, choosing from Baglioni, De Gregori, Mango, and Fanigliulo recounts his musical adventures, from his first competitions to the emotions of his first amateur recordings. A discovery of the musical world, passion that becomes a job, the music that fills his fondest memories, from the sea to his numerous travels in major Italian cities. This book describes the story of his songs, his lyrics being stripped and selected. Lyrics already produced in previous publications and lyrics he never set to music or set to music but never recorded and produced.
