#Domenica al Museo e Castello Normanno Svevo

Sunday, December 1, 2024, on the occasion of the #Domenicalmuseo initiative, you can enter the National Archaeological Museum and the Norman-Swabian Castle of Gioia del Colle for free.

You will be enchanted by the captivating setting of the Norman-Swabian Castle, erected at the beginning of the 12th century AD by the Altavilla family, and later enriched by the great Emperor Frederick II of Swabia between 1229-1230. The rooms, which are fully open to visitors, feature fascinating architecture and medieval elements that tell the story of the life and exploits of the Puer Apuliae.

The interesting collection of the National Archaeological Museum of Gioia del Colle, housed in the rooms of the Frederick's manor, preserves artifacts dating from the 9th to the 3rd century BC from the ancient Peucetian city of Thuriae, now the archaeological area of Monte Sannace. Amphorae, vases, kraters decorated with mythological scenes, fibulae, bracelets, coins, spears, swords, and armor are just some of the remarkable artifacts through which the story of the ancient civilizations of central Apulia can be traced.

Throughout the day, visitors will be accompanied on Guided Tours, at a reduced rate*, discovering the archaeological and medieval profile of this precious place, unknown to many. The Guided Tours* will last approximately 60 minutes and will start at the following times:
09:30 - 10:45 - 12:00 - 15:00 - 16:30 - 17:45
