**VOICES AND STEPS FROM SOUTHERN ITALY** - Exploring the **TARANTELLAS** of southern Italy with **LIVE MUSIC** by **Manuela Rorro** and **Luca Buccarella**.
A small journey through the different dances that characterize the places of Southern Italy. A musical and danced journey, enriched with readings and stories about some of the most beautiful festivals and rituals of our south.
The goal of the workshop is to guide participants through a path of rediscovering traditional dance forms that have survived to us, to learn their figures, history, gestures, and discover the different styles of dance and their contemporary evolution.
Our journey will be divided into different stages: from the "pizzica pizzica" of the central-southern Apulia to the Carpinese tarantella of the Gargano; we will dance the steps of the tammurriata in agro-nocerino-sarnese style of the Avellino area to end up in Irpinia with the tarantella of Montemarano; and we cannot miss passing through southern Calabria to meet the "sonu a ballu" of the Aspromonte wheels.
Manuela Rorro will guide us in the dance accompanied by live music from Luca Buccarella.

**MANUELA RORRO** - Actress, dancer, teacher.
Passionate about theater since childhood, she approached acting during her degree in Philosophy.
In 2002, director, theater leader, and second-generation artist Sergio Pisapia Fiore introduced her to professional work, starting with the scripts of the Commedia dell’Arte and studying masks linked to popular tradition, casting her in the company for numerous tours throughout Italy. Their collaboration continues to this day.
In 2009 she graduated as a drama actress from the "Bologna Galante Garrone Theater School."
In 2007 she began collaborating with Maristella Martella, director of Tarantarte, a cultural association promoting the study of popular dances of southern Italy and the Mediterranean.
Within the association, Manuela organizes events and teaches at the permanent venues in Bologna and Lecce while also teaching in other cities.
In 2008 she became part of "Compagnia Tarantarte - nuova danza popolare" as a dancer, participating in important festivals including "Festival OrienteOccidente" in Rovereto and the "La notte della Taranta" festival in Melpignano, "Sponz Fest" by Vinicio Capossela.
She continues her exploration of traditional dances of Southern Italy and beyond, researching forms from different regions and styles and visiting places of origin.
Recently she's made her debut as a teaching and theater director at the Bentivoglio Theater (BO).
She studies movement analysis with ethnocoreologist Placida Staro, regularly leads dance and theater courses, and continues her work as a theater performer.
For fifteen years she has been running "Tradition and Gesture"; a permanent workshop in Florence that intertwines various languages of traditional, contemporary dance, physical theater, and dance therapy.
**LUCA BUCCARELLA** - Musician, music therapist, and teacher.
A multi-instrumentalist musician from Salento, he took his first musical steps at the age of 10 during the full revival period of the Salento popular tradition.
He approached studying the Apulian tambourine by learning traditional styles and tunes directly from the elders.
He later dedicated himself to studying the guitar and harmonica, but his main instrument became the diatonic accordion.
At age 14, along with Riccardo Laganà and Andrea Morciano, he founded Kalàscima, one of the most innovative groups in Italian world music.
Kalàscima boasts numerous tours in Italy and abroad and participates in internationally prestigious festivals including:
"Szieget Festival" (Hungary), Tatihou Festival (Normandy), "Fete de la musique" (Berlin), Carpino folk festival," "Notte della Taranta" (Italy), Roskilde festival (Denmark), Colours of Ostrava (Czech Republic), Gwangju world music festival (South Korea).
He is also a composer of music and soundtracks for various projects including the app. Sherazade Storymaker for traveling.
In 2011 he expanded his expertise into the socio-educational field through a journey into art therapies, specializing in music therapy.
The integration of these specific techniques characterizes and makes his teaching method even more effective, especially in approaching children and people with disabilities.
