The next guest of **Aperitivo d’Autore**, the format of **Volta la carta** that has been combining literature and gastronomy in Taranto and its province since 2015, is **Teresa Ciabatti**. The appointment is set for **Thursday, May 8** at the **Palazzo Ducale D’Ayala Valva**, an enchanting 15th-century structure that overlooks the central square of **Carosino**.
A renowned writer and cultural columnist for Corriere della Sera, Ciabatti will present her new novel, just released, **_Donnaregina_** (**Mondadori**), in which she investigates a real criminal figure, the Camorra boss Giuseppe Misso, and in some way also herself. The author presents us with the portrait of wounded humanity, taking us on a journey of revelations, ambiguities, and unanswered questions. A powerful book, capable of illustrating the fine line between good and evil, right and wrong, parents and children. She will be in conversation with **Vincenzo Parabita**, the artistic director of Aperitivo d’Autore.
As always, the event will feature the fine food and wine from the region, this time represented by the food from **Symposium Café** and the wines from **Tenute Motolese**. The event will start at **7:30 PM**.

**• THE BOOK •**
Who really is 'o Nasone, accused of armed robbery, criminal association, mafia association, 182 murders committed and commissioned? The writer asks herself this question when the newspaper assigns her the task of interviewing him, the super boss. To her, who knows nothing about crime, who has always dealt with teenagers and at most singers, actresses, and show business people. This is the meeting of two very distant worlds that, at least in the intentions of the protagonist, must remain so. Yet, when he starts talking, something changes. This ruthless man who breeds pigeons and believes in UFOs begins to interest her. Not so much when he lingers on reports of thefts, shootings, and revenge, but rather for the nostalgia that vibrates in the accounts of women met and lost, of friends murdered, and family affections. When, in short, without renouncing his past, the boss shows himself as vulnerable. The doubt: is he perhaps manipulating her? It is on the plane of emotional relationships that the two meet: in the wounds of uncertain, perhaps wrong, parents. In the mystery of children with whom they no longer know how to communicate and fear they have lost forever. Their confrontation, still laden with distrust, transforms into a journey through memories, confessions, misunderstandings, and projections but above all revelations about children who are not what they seem. So when the protagonist finds herself searching for the traces of the boss's son in the streets of Naples, she understands she is looking for someone else: her daughter, who is slipping away from her. In the four years since her most recent novel, we have missed Teresa Ciabatti's perspective, her unique stylistic mark, her lucidity, her irony, the absolute balance of her phrasing. With her intensity and radical non-conformism in writing, Ciabatti leads a protagonist resembling herself into ostensibly remote and indecipherable territories, bringing her back home more pained and wise, capable of recognizing the glimmer of humanity wherever it appears.
**• THE LOCATION •**
The Ducal Palace of Carosino was built around 1400 on behalf of the Tarantine nobles Simonetta. It is arranged around a square courtyard from where two staircases lead to a long corridor on the main floor, overlooking large rooms with barrel and groin vaults. The building then belonged to the Muscettola, Albertini, and Marulli families. The structure has followed the feudal events of Carosino, experiencing periods of abandonment until, at the end of the 1800s, the D’Ayala Valva family, who had acquired it, began its restoration. The Ghibelline battlements on the facade and the transformations undergone over the years have given the palace the appearance of a castle. Since 1985, it has been owned by the Carosino Municipality (which sponsored our event) by the D'Ayala Valva family’s donation act and is currently used as a cultural venue. Structural consolidation work and restoration of the precious wooden roofs from the second half of the 18th century and the rice paper, an antique wallpaper glued with special resins, have been completed. The castle of Carosino is located in the town's main square, at the center of which is an ornamental fountain commonly known as the "wine fountain". Since the 1960s, during the traditional Wine Festival held in summer, primitive wine flows from the fountain's taps.
**• THE WINES •**
Always devoted to the love of the land, the Motolese Agricultural Company has ancient roots. The family's agricultural history began in the 19th century: indeed, even before 1850, and from then until today for eight generations, the passion for vine and olive cultivation has been the basis of daily work. Today the company consists of over 200 hectares of land and three fortified farms, all located in the heart of Puglia. Since 1998, an agronomic and technological renewal process has been underway, involving over 50 hectares of vineyards and more than 12,000 olive trees. This is leading the company to present itself in national and international markets with products characterized by the quality of the raw material, without forgetting the typical characteristics of the regional origin. The Tenute Motolese brand markets Primitivo, Negroamaro, Rosato di Negroamaro, Fiano, and Primitivo Barricato wines, as well as organic extra virgin olive oil.
