Dep Art Out is pleased to announce an event evening dedicated to the artist Alberto Biasi. On Saturday, August 23, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the evocative trullo — the summer venue of the Dep Art Gallery in Milan — will host a selection of works from the historic series Trame. The event is curated by Federico Sardella.
Created between 1959 and 1960, the Trame originate from the overlapping of materials such as gauze, perforated paper for silkworm breeding, and metal meshes mounted on thin wooden frames. These humble materials, which were easily available at the time from any agricultural cooperative or village hardware store, become the tool with which Biasi scientifically explores visual perception: the progressive misalignment of the meshes generates continuously vibrating grid patterns and spectacular moiré effects, revealing “the invisible” hidden in optical phenomena. In contrast to the 1960s avant-gardes that often elevated everyday objects to artistic fetishes, Biasi's goal is the opposite: the point is not to ennoble the gauze but to render it a pure interface between light and eye, controlling the phenomenon through a measurable progression of densities and inclinations. The result is always unprecedented, capable of transforming with each step taken by the viewer.
The dialogue with the trullo is based on a subtle interplay of material and structural resonances. The vernacular architecture, built "dry" with white stones supported by opposing forces, follows a precise and essential pattern. Similarly, since its inception, weaving is composed "thread by thread," becoming so robust that it can serve for making garments, sacks, or even sails. While the trullo was once considered a humble dwelling, today it astonishes with its exceptionally solid architecture. With his Trame, Biasi creates perfect examples of kinetic art, where movement — only apparent — arises from a masterful balance between constructive simplicity and perceptual complexity.

Alberto Biasi (Padua, 1937) is among the pioneers of Italian kinetic art. As a co-founder of the Gruppo N in 1959, he participated in the Nouve Tendances exhibitions in Zagreb (1961-65) and The Responsive Eye at MoMA in New York (1965), which established Op Art internationally. His research developed in cycles such as Trame, Optical-Dynamic Reliefs, Twists, and Polytypes, all centered on the interaction between light, surface, and apparent movement. His works are featured in prestigious public collections: Museum of Modern Art, New York; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg; Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice; National Gallery of Modern Art, Rome, among many others.
Dep Art Out is a place beyond the ordinary where art manifests itself innovatively. The trullo, an icon of Puglia recognized worldwide, becomes an extraordinary exhibition space, nestled in the countryside between Ceglie Messapica and Martina Franca.
