"Per gusto e per diletto": Francesco Caringella

📣 The sixth event of the literary series features Francesco Caringella with the book "L'attesa dell'alba" published by Mondadori, interviewed by Anna Guidone.

📕 Despite many years spent inside and outside courtrooms, Filippo Santini is still convinced that justice is fever, desire, hunger, humanity. After all, when he decided to become a criminal lawyer right after graduating—disappointing his overbearing father Giovanni, who wanted him to become a magistrate—it was because that way, he could stay close to the only true protagonists of legal proceedings: the defendants. It doesn't even matter if they are innocent or guilty; each of them carries a unique story and must be defended fiercely because when fighting for life, only the result matters. Filippo isn't concerned with morals; right and wrong are not his business, only the legitimate and the illegitimate.

Everything changes when Sandra enters his office: fragile and beautiful, she tells him that five years earlier, her beloved husband Alberto was hit by a reckless driver, and since that day, he has been confined to a bed, dependent on others for everything. Now Alberto wants to die, and Sandra, with a shattered heart, has resigned herself to fulfilling his wish.

Filippo is frozen: the lawyer in him screams to stay away from such a thorny case, but a deeper part of him thinks differently... a deeper part that will soon need to question whether life is a right or a duty, and what we are willing to do after answering that question. Francesco Caringella employs all his sharp knowledge of the eternal confrontation between Justice and Law to serve a story about the most poignant and profoundly human dilemmas: life and the right to relinquish it.

🔎 Francesco Caringella, formerly a police commissioner and criminal magistrate in Milan during the "Mani Pulite" (Clean Hands) investigation, is the president of the fifth section of the Council of State. For Mondadori, he has published "La corruzione spuzza" ("Corruption Stinks").
