Ciò che Resta - Storia di una madre da Gaza

"What Remains" is a visual poem about pain, love, and loss. Through movement, sound, and shadow, it tells the story of a mother facing the consequences of war—not on the battlefield, but in the silent spaces of her home, where absence speaks louder than words.

The piece explores how memory is imprinted on the body, how love survives even in the most devastating silence, and how a mother’s resilience becomes both elegy and promise.

What Remains is a powerful contemporary dance performance that explores the devastating journey of a mother who loses her entire family during the war in Gaza. Through deeply emotional movements and a minimal set, the show tells the story of a once happy family—mother, father, and three children—destroyed one by one by the horrors of conflict. In the final heartbreaking moment, the mother is left alone, cradling the lifeless body of her child.

The concept for this event was conceived by Hossein Farmani, founder of the Lucie Foundation. The libretto was transformed into a contemporary dance choreography by Enza Consoli from the A.S.D. Degas studio in Fasano, an artistic training center she directs, dedicated to classical and contemporary dance.

This is not a political work but a deeply human one. A universal expression of pain, love, and loss, told through the language of the body. The performance invites the audience to witness the intimacy of war’s tragedy, stripped of ideologies or news headlines.

Why it matters:
It bears witness to the universal pain of a mother losing everything. It does not accuse or point fingers. It shows that war is not an abstraction: it is the destruction of love, safety, and motherhood.
