TRE SORELLE - Ovvero la felicità quando è altrove
Theatre
One extraordinary actress for twelve characters.
It premieres nationally on Friday, February 27 and Saturday, February 28 at the Teatro Manzoni in Calenzano (Florence) "Three Sisters - Or Happiness is When Elsewhere," the new show by Silvia Frasson adapted from Anton Chekhov's "Three Sisters."
The masterpiece of the Russian writer and playwright comes to life on stage through the voice and body of a single, extraordinary performer. Silvia Frasson, one of the leading figures in contemporary narrative theatre, engages with the complexity and poignant melancholy of the Prozorov sisters in a scenic reworking that takes the form of a powerful theatrical tale.
On stage, the atmospheres, dialogues, and suspended lives of Olga, Masha, and Irina blend into an intense and personal narrative. Frasson's dramaturgy distills the essence of Chekhov's work, exploring the universal themes of the inability to live, the desire to escape, love—often unhappy—and the fierce clash between dreams and arid reality. Not a traditional staging, but a deep immersion into the heart of the text, where the story becomes action and returns to the audience the poetic strength and timeless relevance of a classic.
"Every time I read Chekhov," explains Silvia Frasson, "I sighed and longed: these characters are so beautiful that I would like to perform them all! And so, here I am! Fulfilling a wish. To traverse, with my one body, all the characters, together. For me, Chekhov is everything we see slipping through our fingers. They are the questions that, please, never give us an answer. Chekhov is the passing time and happiness when it is elsewhere. 'Three Sisters' is the celebration of the impossibility of knowing how to live that connects us all; it is the unspoken that screams loudly beneath few words. I love Chekhov's characters because they are desperately passionate about life. Life that disappoints them, mistreats them, but never erodes their hope for a better tomorrow: Nikolai Tuzenbach, before the deadly duel, wants to say so many things but chooses the smallest thing possible: 'I didn't have coffee today. Tell them to make me some.'"
