SCD Studio in Perugia presents NOSCE TE IPSUM, a solo exhibition by Rosita D’Agrosa, curated by Barbara Pavan. This exhibition project brings together various series of the artist’s works, reflecting her inner journey to know herself and recognize her individuality.
As an only child raised in a cultural context spanning Southern Italy and Latin America, the process of emancipation was complex and challenging for her, influenced by family dynamics deeply marked by patriarchy, an inheritance of both maternal and paternal cultures. It is from this perimeter that the assertive necessity arose to affirm and narrate her femininity through art—free and liberated from social and traditional 'cages' that hinder or limit its authenticity. Thus, in a play of echoes and references, the exploration of the personal and intimate dimension becomes a universal reflection on the female condition, which in turn finds collective and transgenerational redemption where the possibility for the individual to be and express themselves takes shape. It is a complex inner journey marked by a continuous reworking of past experiences, not as a denial of the past but as a search for balance between opposites.
In the artworks on display, a constant tension emerges between contrasting materials and a narrative intertwining cyclical and directional time, between the preservation of memory and the transcendence of its limits. The use of embroidery recalls the childhood memory of feminine freedom experienced by women when they shared the time dedicated to it, free from male control and gaze. Thus, gestures that once were simple manual activities transformed into spaces for expression and self-determination. Today, this technique becomes a tool for affirmation and rebellion: embroidering symbols of emancipation, like a vulva or uterus, not only reinforces the assertive value of the work but definitively breaks ties with a freedom that is granted and regulated externally. Through her art, D’Agrosa gives voice and dignity to a female universe whose autonomy and uniqueness she fully asserts.
The exhibition can be visited at SCD Studio, via Bramante 22N, in Perugia from April 12 to May 10, 2025. Opening on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 6:00 PM. Exhibition catalog available.
THE ARTIST
Rosita D’Agrosa graduated in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where she completed her artistic training thanks to a scholarship at the Il Bisonte Foundation, specializing in printmaking and graphic arts. During her academic career, she participated in several artistic residencies in Spain, particularly in Lleida, Erill la Vall, and Arenys de Munt. Her artistic exploration is characterized by experimentation and cross-contamination between pictorial, graphic, and textile media. She recovers techniques linked to her family history, transforming them into expressive language. Her poetics explore an intimate and personal feminine dimension, the result of a careful study of the body and an analysis of the change to which the human being is subject.
D’Agrosa has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, both in Italy and abroad. Recently: (2025) Inner Landscapes at the Landscape Museum of Riolo Terme, Ravenna, and Jaulas para pensamientos at ELtouch Art Gallery in Pietrasanta; in 2024, she exhibited in Spain with Mujeres en tela: narrativas de lo íntimo, hosted at the Mieres Centru Cultural in Asturias and in 2023 at the Italo Bolano Foundation in Prato, at Latte Project Space in Faenza, and at the Lucía Dueñas Gallery in Oviedo. Among group exhibitions and contemporary art fairs, she was selected in 2025 for Crea Open in Venice and for Tessitrici di destini – Le voci delle donne at Pubblica_Lab in Sant’Omero, Teramo. The previous year she participated in Partage, organized by the Amleto Bertoni Foundation in Saluzzo, and in 2023, in Unclassifiable in Todi, in Erotika2 and Erotika3 between Milan and Turin, and Femminile Plurale at Dr Fake Cabinet in Turin.
