"TARENTÌNULA" TARANTINA PIZZICA DANCE WORKSHOP
with the popular dance instructor Cinzia Pizzo

Let us experience together the magic of the power of an ancient dance, always a tool for the liberation of the mind and body. The workshop is open to everyone, beginners and enthusiasts who wish to improve and understand the historical and traditional knowledge of pizzica pizzica, its steps, movements, symbols, choreographies, couple dance, and its language.

Cinzia Pizzo, researcher of Tradition and Popular Culture of the Ionian area, dancer and teacher of popular dances. Her work began in 1992 with a popular music project that spans the entire southern area. Shortly thereafter, she began her field research, which has never stopped, aiming to enhance the traditional heritage of Taranto and its province, with particular attention to the Ionian capital. Popular dance entered her life in the early years of the third millennium. Thus was born a passion that still accompanies her today and immediately became a reason for study and sharing. Tarantine history and tradition are the fundamental points of her commitment. Her research work on customs, traditional costumes, and music, as well as being a popular singer, has been intense. Her work on Taranto's Tarantism is notable; a long series of interviews with the city's elders has allowed her to provide a precise and effective reconstruction of the area's exclusive rituals. She passionately spreads the results of her fieldwork, networking with other practitioners and important local scholars. She actively collaborates, in perfect harmony with the city's cultural landscape, in reclaiming the central role denied for decades to the city of Taranto regarding the phenomenon of Tarantism. The Pizzica Pizzica, danced in the typical Taranto style, is one of the important results of her field research and is taught in her courses and popular dance workshops. The musical repertoire associated with the Ionian capital's Tarantism completes the picture of her research; together with dance, it is an integral part of her Tarantine culture shows, works she creates alongside Tarantinìdion APS, of which she is a founder.
