E Luce Fu XXII Element thanks to the donation from the artist Michele TOMBOLINI will officially become part of the permanent collection of Spazio Thetis, at the Arsenale in Venice,
The work, created by the Venetian artist in 2015 using mixed media, addresses the theme of violence against women, paying particular attention to the inability to react and seek revenge. The characteristic "X" on the mouth, one of Tombolini's recurring pictorial symbols, represents censorship and imposed silence, preventing the woman from screaming, reporting, and giving voice to her pain.
Tombolini, known for his exhibitions at the Venice Biennale in 2022, the Milan Triennale, and the solo exhibition at the Gibellina Museum, where the Orestiadi Foundation acquired two of his works, has decided to pay homage to Spazio Thetis which welcomed him in an exhibition at the beginning of his career and in Venice, his hometown, with this donation.
The artist says: "Making art is a task and a gift that allows me to communicate emotions, sensations, and reflections. Art documents our time and our society, creating reactions in the public that fulfill my intention."
The cycle "E Luce Fu " to which the work belongs, was born in the 2000s when the artist felt the need to express a growing spirituality and reflect on the meaning of life and death. Through his work, Tombolini addresses complex social issues such as violence, censorship, and silence surrounding fundamental issues of the human condition.
Spazio Thetis represents the cultural and artistic part of Thetis spa, an engineering company that develops projects and technological applications for the environment and territory and boasts an important permanent collection of contemporary art, which includes installations such as "Third Paradise" by Michelangelo Pistoletto, "The Man who Measures the Clouds" by Jean Fabre, "The Sentinels" by Beverly Pepper, just to name a few.
Thetis spa is grateful to welcome Tombolini's work that addresses the dramatic topic of violence against women and is proud to have achieved as a company the UNI/PdRI 125:2022 Gender Equality Certification.
This certification aims to guide towards a gender equality policy, through the creation of a more inclusive and less discriminatory work environment, supporting career opportunities, equal pay for equal tasks, and maternity protection.
This recognition testifies to Thetis' commitment to promote and implement a policy focused on inclusivity, respect for the individual, and their enhancement.
Spazio Thetis' artistic activity is focused on promoting and supporting contemporary art through various initiatives at its headquarters in the ancient Venetian Arsenal with the lush garden park. Over the years, it has collaborated with important institutions such as museums, galleries, and foundations for the realization of temporary exhibitions, collateral events for the Biennale and national pavilions, but also as a promoter and organizer itself. www.thetis.it
The event is in collaboration with the cultural association Paolo Rizzi ETS of Venice.
