TOGETTHERE WITH A WOMAN is a gathering of feminine universes that, from November 10 to 24, will converge in Venice at the ancient spaces of the Oratorio dei Crociferi in the name of contemporary art that on one side celebrates Women, highlighting their resilience and creativity, and on the other aims directly at the theme of always being somewhat of a foreigner everywhere. In the external world and the inner world.
However, even though, from the "xenox" of the Greeks to the "hostis" of the Romans, the figure of the foreigner has acquired infinite semantic nuances over time, it remains a fact that it indicates both a figure different from us and one in constant relation with us. This is what the 14 artists selected by Art Curator Marika Parsadanelli Wardell express: cultural or generational differences are not obstacles but opportunities to connect, evolve, and build meaningful connections. Keeping the memory of the Past alive and focusing on the Present can help shape new horizons for future generations. The exhibition is intended as an invitation to share, respect, and get to know the Other.
TOGETTHERE thus resumes the theme "Foreigners Everywhere" from the Venice Art Biennale 2024 and proposes a vibrant journey through diverse works - drawings, paintings, installations, performances, videos, and digital artworks - cultural metaphors of contemporary art that invites introspection and becomes a mirror of a society where women are increasingly united, persevering, and free. To express themselves. And to create.
On November 9, from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the vernissage open to the public will take place.
14 ARTISTS DEBUT AT THE ORATORIO DEI CROCIFERI. 14 WOMEN. 14 'SISTERS'. For a single "manifesto" that speaks of sharing, rights, and equality.
TOGETTHERE - "Together" and "To get there" at the same time: 'together with a woman' and 'to get to where there is a woman.' Goal? To reflect on the contribution of women in art, starting from the 14 artists on display, united by a 'sisterhood' that is both a communion of intentions, visions, and efforts to affirm the rights and opportunities of women in culture and society. 'TOGETTHERE with a Woman' or 'Reaching There with the Woman' is a play on words that hides a profound meaning and creates an invisible connection between women of different eras and cultures, uniting the past and present in a space we can call sacred," explains Art Curator Marika Parsadanelli Wardell. The exhibition is a sort of spiritual pilgrimage, inviting visitors to discover art pieces rich in emotions.
The choice of the Oratorio dei Crociferi is not random: this historic space, once part of a medieval building emblematic of Venetian culture, was originally intended as a hospital and rest stop for crusaders and pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land and was transformed in the 14th century into a shelter for poor women who found support and understanding here, gaining self-awareness and knowledge of the world, as well as learning manual crafts. In memory of this, the curator wanted to make the Oratorio dei Crociferi the stage of choice for the Italian debut of this exhibition that pays homage to History and Women through Art.
The exhibition "TOGETTHERE" is part of the event circuit scheduled in the Lagoon for the 2024 edition of "November Woman – Free from Violence" under the patronage of the City of Venice. The complete program can be consulted at the following link: https://www.comune.venezia.it/content/programma-4
