On Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM, the book “MODERN ART - Revolution and Painting” will be donated to the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice. The ceremony will take place in the presence of the Library Director Stefano Trovato, the Vice President of the Regional Council of Veneto Francesco Rucco, the President of the Regional Council of Veneto Roberto Ciambetti, the Director of the Alberto Peruzzo Foundation Marco Trevisan, and the donor and author of the book, Alberto Peruzzo.
Alberto Peruzzo, an entrepreneur, collector, and President of the Alberto Peruzzo Foundation (Padua), will donate to the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana what is considered the largest, heaviest, and most expensive book in the world. This initiative follows a private visit by Peruzzo to the Monumental Halls, where he was invited and welcomed by Director Stefano Trovato, who subsequently decided to include the work in the prestigious and valuable collection of the Library. This donation carries both symbolic and tangible significance: making a unique and highly valuable work available to the public, contributing to the enrichment of one of Italy's most important library institutions.
“MODERN ART - Revolution and Painting” arises from the desire to share a personal passion for painting and transform it into a shared experience. As Alberto Peruzzo himself writes: “Everyone who has a passion for art and is sensitive to the charm of creativity has, at least once in their life, dreamed of owning a personal collection in which to safeguard their most beloved works. There, in the gallery of the heart. This volume was born with the idea of realizing that dream. Creating such an impressive work has been for me an act of love born from the desire to make art converse with those who observe it, offering those who turn its pages the pleasure of possessing, for a moment, the world of modern art.”
From this vision, in 2002 this exclusive volume was created, proposing itself as a personal museum made into a book. It is designed to be a three-dimensional art object, hand-bound in birch and leather, and intended to be displayed on a lectern, as a living monument of art. A true product of high craftsmanship, limited and numbered in edition, with a wooden cover covered in light leather, hot-stamped in silver, containing 544 lithographed pages in 25 colors of the highest quality, reproducing over 250 masterpieces from the 19th and 20th centuries in an open size of 100 x 70 cm. Modern Art is a work designed to maximize visual pleasure and the reader's experience, distinguished by the high quality of the raw materials used. Particular attention is given to color fidelity and texture, with plates that, where possible, respect the real dimensions of the masterpieces.
As early as 2003, the work gained international recognition: presented at the 54th Frankfurt International Book Fair, it attracted the attention of the Financial Times, which dedicated an entire page to it, recognizing its artistic and editorial value.
Alberto Peruzzo's passion for art and collecting arose spontaneously in the late 1980s, at the age of 30, and over time evolved into increasingly intense involvement. The book marks an important first act in Alberto Peruzzo's broader cultural journey and commitment. A second key moment concerns the restoration of the Italy Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, undertaken in 2011 with his company Arzanà Navi, at the invitation of the Louis Vuitton maison, which recognized him as the right partner: an entrepreneur, a man of great culture, a collector, and, above all, an authentic patron. Restoring such a significant place constitutes a valuable intervention for the cultural identity of the city of Venice and of Italy, concretizing Alberto Peruzzo's commitment and interest in the world of culture.
The subsequent idea to create a Foundation originates from the desire to transform works that until that moment were exclusively personally owned into a collective and shared heritage. Thus, in 2015, the entrepreneur established the Alberto Peruzzo Foundation, an example of collecting “beyond profit” (non-profit), where cultural enhancement and the sharing of artistic heritage constitute the true objective. In the same year, Peruzzo initiated restoration work on the Church of Sant'Agnese, completed in 2023, the year in which the Foundation officially took residence in the restored church, where it still resides today.
Today, the Foundation is distinguished by the breadth and importance of its collection, which includes hundreds of works of art from the early 20th century to the present day. It features works by some of the most significant figures in modern and contemporary international art: Balla, Sironi, De Pisis, Picasso, Dubuffet, Chagall, Léger, Casorati, Riopelle, Albers, Ernst, Mirò, Manzoni, Fontana, Vedova, De Chirico, Crippa, Carrà, Sutherland, Turcato, Christo, Wesselmann, Tàpies, Jenkins, Afro, Schifano, Schnabel, Plessi, Dine, Francis, Appel, Jenkins, Biasi, Music, Arman, Murakami, Valdes, Mitoraj, Paladino, Mastrovito, Hassan, Pegoraro.
