Baobab: L’albero delle storie

On Saturday, November 7, Wonderform’s theatrical improvisation arrives at the Teatro Kolbe in Mestre, with special guest Fabio Pavan

Wonderform, the theatrical improvisation school active in Mestre and Padua, makes its debut at the Teatro Kolbe in Mestre with Baobab: The Tree of Stories.

This is a completely improvised show in which anecdotes and stories from the audience will provide the inspiration for the stories that unfold on stage in a crescendo of creativity.

The eight actors of the Squartaparete company—five of whom are also instructors at the Wonderform school—will be joined on stage by the music of maestro Fabio Pavan, a musician and educator with AREAMISTA (Arezzo and Florence) and LA BALENA (Milan). On this occasion, he will also lead a workshop for Wonderform students during the weekend.

The show will open with Improulette, a short showcase by a group of students from Wonderform’s intermediate and advanced courses, who will improvise a series of games and sketches based on suggestions and directions from the audience.

This is the first show of the season organized by Wonderform in the Mestre area, where the school is growing exponentially through its improvisation courses held at the parish community center of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Villaggio Sartori, on the Terraglio.

In the future, new events are planned featuring leading national and international guests from the world of theatrical improvisation, as well as brand-new shows and original formats.

Who are the Squartaparete:

The Squartaparete company has been active in its theatrical form for just over a year, but it is made up of a group of highly experienced improvisers whose paths have crossed in various ways over the years.

The company includes Riccardo Bidoia, founder and driving force behind Wonderform, together with the school’s other instructors, Alessandro Corrà, Stefano Giacché, Mirco Vecchiato, and Daniele Loschi. Completing the ensemble are Piero Sciavilla, Serena Tedesco, and Giorgia Cordischi.

Who is Fabio Pavan:

Pianist, author, composer, arranger, educator, and trainer. He holds a degree in Jazz Piano. He has been an improvising musician for over 20 years, with an intense programme of research and teaching in the field of musical improvisation connected to Long Form and Short Form performances.

Former Musical Director of B.L.U.E. il Musical Completamente Improvvisato. Considered Italy’s finest improvising musician, he is capable of making any scene magical, creating unique and surprising musical landscapes.

What is Wonderform?

Now in its third year, the theatrical improvisation school founded by Riccardo Bidoia is active in Mestre and Padua, offering nine weekly courses.

More than one hundred people have already chosen to challenge themselves and discover this expressive form based on collaboration, listening, and creativity.

Wonderform’s growth in Mestre has been exponential: after launching its first course in Cipressina in 2024, it doubled in size in 2025 with two additional beginner courses and a move to Via Cecchini. This year, in response to the increase in enrolments and the growing number of activities, the courses are being held at the parish community center of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Villaggio Sartori, on the Terraglio.

The school also offers courses in the province of Padua, in Vigonza and Albignasego, and is preparing to open a branch in London for the many Italians living in the British capital.

What is theatrical improvisation?

Theatrical improvisation is a form of theatre in which stories, characters, and situations are created directly on stage at the moment of performance, based on ideas and suggestions from the audience.

Improvisation courses help improve interpersonal skills, develop creativity and problem-solving abilities, and enhance listening and understanding. They also provide opportunities for socialising and entertainment for people of all ages.
